Any number of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2025\/06\/washington-post-ai-opinion\/683064\/\">experiments<\/a>\u00a0have ensued\u2014publishers have used the software to help\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/10\/07\/reader-center\/how-new-york-times-uses-ai-journalism.html\">translate<\/a>\u00a0work into different languages, draft\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/10\/07\/reader-center\/how-new-york-times-uses-ai-journalism.html\">headlines<\/a>, and write\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/farhip\/status\/1795832691595907475\">summaries<\/a>\u00a0or even\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/technology\/archive\/2023\/01\/buzzfeed-using-chatgpt-openai-creating-personality-quizzes\/672880\/\">articles<\/a>. But perhaps no publication has gone further than the Italian newspaper\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilfoglio.it\/\"><em>Il Foglio<\/em><\/a>. For one month, beginning in late March,\u00a0<em>Il Foglio<\/em>\u00a0printed a daily insert consisting of four pages of AI-written articles and headlines. Each day,\u00a0<em>Il Foglio<\/em>\u2019s top editor, Claudio Cerasa, asked ChatGPT Pro to write articles on various topics\u2014Italian politics, J. D. Vance, AI itself. Two humans reviewed the outputs for mistakes, sometimes deciding to leave in minor errors as evidence of AI\u2019s fallibility and, at other times, asking ChatGPT to rewrite an article.
